Oh, Broke Black Bougie has a new look and this time it hits different.

In 2022, I️ decided to professionally invest in the rebrand of Broke Black Bougie. For years I️ struggled with being the head creative, writer, graphic designer, social media strategist, etc. I attempted to do it all and was unable to create content with ease. I️ eventually created various digital products for Broke Black Bougie but, refused to publish the content because the branding was in need of some serious tender loving care.

As a Black creative I️ understand it’s extremely hard to build a brand from scratch with limited financial resources, and support but, it’s not impossible. Although there were times where I️ felt like I️ should close Broke Black Bougie as a chapter, I️ decided against it because I️ ultimately understood the value of this platform to its community and where it has the potential to grow in the future.

As the founder of Broke Black Bougie, I️ want to thank each of you who have been present from the beginning supporting the brand. While I desire to list everything I hope to do with this new branding, I think it’s in my best interest to let the brand's evolution speak for itself. I️ want to take a moment to briefly overview the evolution of Broke Black Bougie, LLC.

  • (Left top) One of the earliest versions of Broke Black Bougie's website. The site started in Blogger as I️ transitioned from writing under the name Charlisa Charli to creating content under Broke Black Bougie. The logo was purchased for $5 from a designer on FIVERR.

  • (Left bottom) These are the earliest versions of Broke Black Bougie's logo, including the bottom right logo, which I'm sure you may be unfamiliar with representing BBB. I️ really loved this logo and felt her image was relatable. However, I️ eventually decided to go with another logo identity. Can you guess what each logo has in common? Hint: look at the hair.

  • (Right top) There were about five different versions of this site design. These websites didn't have a great balance of different colors (it was very much pink), but each version had a blog, an about page, a link to the merch shop, and a service page.

  • (Right bottom) This photo represents the latest brand identity for Broke Black Bougie, LLC. And yes, there are various versions of the Broke Black Bougie logo, which will be revealed over time. The branding of Broke Black Bougie, LLC was conducted by Lauren of The BeMused Studio.

Looking at where BBB is today, I am incredibly proud of the brand’s development. I started this website as I was making my way through undergrad. The brand's earlier iteration spoke to these experiences, but over time it has evolved into a more sophisticated brand operating in its original intent.

There's just so much beauty in the elevation of this brand, and I️ can't wait to share it all with the Broke Black Bougie community. Thanks for being a part of this journey. It’s only up from here!

    With love,
